I recently taught a workshop in Sheridan WY, which is on the eastern front of theBigHornMountains. The landscape around the town is varied and beautiful. There are vast rolling hills dotted with ranches that remind me of the Flint Hills ofKansasexcept there are snow capped mountains in the background,Kansasjust has more rolling hills in the background. Several rivers run through the area, the Tounge River, the Little Big Horn River,Goose River all were over flowing and were like ribbons cutting through the country side. It was June so the landscape was green, very green, but a good exercise in mixing a variety of green, and even though it was June there was still a lot of snow in the mountains. The Sheridan Artists Guild put the workshop together and did a great job of making it easy for me to teach. The Guild is located in the historic railroad depot in town and have a variety of shows each year.
Nearby in Big Horn WY is a little museum tucked away at the base of the mountains, the Bradford Brinton Museum, it has a great collection of Russells, Remingtons, E.W. Gollings Frank Tenney Johnson and more. They also have shows of different artists through out the year.
Below are some of the demos from the workshop and some of the scenery:
