Ridgway Colorado Workshop

In this 4-day workshop the class will be painting outdoors for 3 of the 4 days to learn how to create small color studies. Then on the 4th day we will be in the studio, learning how to turn the color studies (along with aphoto) into studio paintings. We will focus on simplifying the main aspects of painting a landscape. We want to be able to "see" as an artist, not as a camera. Students will learn how to simplify the subject to large masses and simple values and eliminate the need for too much detail. We will also learn how to use the color wheen so we can more easily mix color that suggests the light without trying to copy what we see.
I will do 2 demonstrations a day and work individually with each student. The demonstrations will be in oils, but acrylic, pastel and watercolors are welcome, the thought process and procedure are the same.
